Punta Mango, El Salvador
C. July 2022. Shot on iPhone 12. Los Mangos Hotel, El Salvador.
On a Wednesday, I was at the new Capitola Library in Santa Cruz. I was looking at the South Pacific storm activity charts and saw a large purple blob forming the largest south swell of the summer that was going to hit Central America Monday-Wednesday. I immediately looked at flights and saw one for $600 round trip from LAX to El Salvador.
I was on the fence about booking it. Was it the responsible thing to do? I didn’t really have the money for it? But this would be my last chance at a surf trip with Jared? I was on the fence, but Savannah convinced me to send it. So I did, knowing I had 24 hours to cancel and get my money back. I texted Jared to see if he wanted to take surf trip to Punta Mango. I locked in reservations at the resort and made it irresistible for him to say no.
I drove from Santa Cruz to HB Friday morning. Had church Friday night. Slept and woke up Saturday morning. Packed my boards and was at LAX at 4 pm.
My time with Jared was special. Kelly and the boys were in HB still, so it was just Jared and I. It was our last stint of quality time together before I was off to Indonesia. It is a trip I will remember forever.
